Rules and Structure
The first step to becoming a winning player is to develop a solid foundation. This course will walk you through the basics: how hands are ordered, how to read the board, how the table is laid out, what each position is called, and all the rules of play. When you’ve completed this section of the course, you will feel completely comfortable with poker terms and be able to accurately follow the action and identify hands. You will also learn exactly how to play a hand so that you can sit down at either a live or an online game fully prepared to join the game.
Fundamental Strategy
Once you understand the basic structure of the game, we will walk you through a solid fundamental
strategy. You will learn how to bet and raise, both preflop and postflop, and how to decide which
action is best. You will also discover which starting hands you should play from each position, as
well as how to execute a winning postflop strategy.
Aggression
In No-Limit Hold’Em, aggression is key to success. Aggressive play allows you to win even when you don’t have the best hand. So in this course, you’ll learn to spot the right times to be aggressive, and you’ll master a strategy for consistently executing strategic, selective aggression. Understanding this concept allows you to win chips in many situations where you don’t seem to have good cards, so that you never have to rely solely on hand strength.
Pot Odds
Many people feel intimidated, both by pot odds and by “poker math.” But the fact is, you don’t really need to know more than basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division—the trick is in knowing how to apply them. In this course, you’ll learn step by step how to apply basic math to poker situations so that you know how to make profitable decisions. You’ll master concepts that will leave you feeling clear and confident about how to use math at the poker table.
Tournament Strategy
To be successful in poker tournaments, you need the fundamentals of tournament strategy—and you’ll learn that strategy in this course. We’ll walk you through each different type of tournament—freeze-out, rebuy, satellite, and single-table—along with the keys to developing a winning strategy: understanding stack sizes, coin-flips, risk-reward ratios, blind stealing, semi-bluffing, and scare cards. You’ll also learn how to translate an aggressive strategy into tournament success and how to accumulate chips even when you aren’t getting any cards.
Becoming a Winning Player
Poker success has two key components: strategy and mindset. To become a winning player, you need the correct mental and emotional approach to the game, so that you keep learning, growing, and improving as you play. We’ll show you the best ways to practice and perfect the techniques from this course, and you’ll find out how to avoid some of the most common pitfalls on your way to poker success.
